Technology Integration

In 2019, I participated in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology's (MAET) Summer Hybrid.  In this program, I learned how to integrate technology, pedagogy, and content (TPACK) in meaningful ways and how to be a technology leader within education.  It's not enough to use more technology in the classroom; students need meaningful experiences with it.  Students are growing up in a technologically advancing world and it is our duty to prepare them for it.

3x3x3 Project

In this video, I explain Paul Gee's What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy.  In this project, I learned about the literacy of technology, specifically that video games are semiotic domains of literacy.  Some of the greatest and most meaningful learning can occur through these richly intricate experiences.  It is for this reason that I want to design educational resources that help explain the literacy of video games while improving the academic performance of students.

Jamestown Adventure

One suggestion I always seem to get from students is to make class more fun.  Seeing as students enjoy any opportunity to play games in class, I decided to use this website from my high school experience.  Students were tasked with creating their own Jamestown colony.  Watching their reactions as they argued and voted on the forming of their colony was exhilarating.  Since then, I have made an active effort to incorporate more learning opportunities like this into my instruction.  That day, my students taught me the importance of making learning enjoyable and memorable.  It is through proper technological integration that we can create meaningful experiences for the students we serve.

A World Unseen

I adore historical films as they help to bring history alive.  In this lesson, I use A World Unseen, a documentary that followed the making of The Revenant.  I use this resource as a discussion piece for a variety of different reasons.  It conveys the hardships Native Americans still face today, delves into whether people who are racist are bad or just ignorant, and briefly touches on climate change.  Using documentaries and technologies like this allow students to connect their learning of the past to issues of the present.
